Event Horizon is a fairly decent sci-fi horror. It’s well structured, building up suspense well and picking up the pace in the final act. It wasn’t incredibly original, but I’m not sure it needed to be; it felt like Alien at a couple times and, to be honest, I couldn’t help but draw similarities to the DOOM video game plot line as the story unfolded at the end. The acting was good, and the effects were surprisingly solid. But it still felt like a 25 year old movie; like it was part of the slew of 90s sci-fi movies. There’s nothing wrong with that. I actually found myself wondering if this had the potential to be re-told today; perhaps as a cable/streaming mini-series. Would be interesting. |
