I really enjoyed Cobweb. The story is overwhelmingly original, neither is some of the scares itself, but it's an extremely well executed first half that takes a pivot for the second half in a way that I did not see coming, and I rather enjoyed the genre and pacing change. You do half to enter that second half understanding that the movie's changed, and the world we thought we were in is no longer the same reality. The mystery thriller has changed to monster horror. Also, I couldn't help but feel that it was somewhat familiar. If you want a family-friendly, 10 minute version, you could probably watch The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror from 1996 where Bart here's thumping in the attic and it turns out to be Hugo, his older brother, lol. The ending is a little abrupt, and leaves a bit more questions. It kind felt like maybe they had an ending, and the studio was like "hey, leave it open for a sequel" or something. There was a bit of 'the future just can't happen that way' feel to it. |
