I liked this enough as a cheap slasher if it wasn't necessarily a remake of the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Englund’s previous performances have all been great, but the character has devolved into a one-lining caricature, down to even the “burn” mask. It was refreshing to see a darker look and personality for Freddy, even if it felt a bit off. I’m not sure the change in lore was really necessary, though. All together, it felt like an OK monster slasher movie, but falls short of standing up to the original. |
